Wedding Ceremony Moral Expectations
In order to be qualified for a pastor to do your wedding ceremony at Impact Miami Church:
- Both people must be Christian and members of a healthy Christ-centered church where they attend, participate, and tithe unto the Lord. A reference letter from their pastor should be emailed to our pastors at pastors@impactmiami.org.
- They should have abstained from sex throughout their relationship or throughout the pre-marital counseling sessions. The Bible teaches in Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
- They cannot be living in the same house together—no exceptions, even if living with parents. Romans 14:20–21: “Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food… It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.”
- The couple should, in most cases, complete marriage counseling at least 60 days before the wedding date and be open to the possibility of canceling their wedding if counseling reveals they are not spiritually, morally, or emotionally compatible (it is advised you have a 30-day release waiver on your ceremony and reception rental agreement and other materials purchasing or renting).
Exemptions: Some couples who have a rich Christian testimony, character witnesses, are widowed with Christian marriage experience, or who have prepared for marriage through other means of formal or informal training may be exempted from the 6–8 week Marriage Counseling Sessions. Pastors will determine this based on each situation and context.
